Becoming a Young Entrepreneur – Miyagi Mornings Epi-142 - Jack Spirko

I get a lot of questions about entrepreneurship and occasionally it is directed more at young people than just say everyone. In this case it is a question about becoming an entrepreneur strait out of school. Here is the question as it came in on MeWe from Melissa on MeWe

"Do you have a podcast on how to go from a high school student to successful business owner without 4+ years of college? I have a (homeschooled) kid that has wanted to open her own business since she was 5, but everyone tells her she must go to college and get that business degree."

Okay we are going to take an honest look at this question today and there are really three paths in this situation, we are going to look at all of them honestly for the good and the bad.

1. Go to College
2. Take a job in the area you are interested in being in business in
3. Go strait at running your own business

Long time listeners may suspect I am going to just say, do option three, you’d be wrong. Each of these has different strengths and weaknesses. Each suits different individuals differently. We have to ask things like…

1. What area do you want to be in
2. What are your current strengths and weaknesses
3. Do you plan to seek funding via investors, etc.
4. Do you want to run a huge business, mid sized, etc.
5. Why do you want to run your own business in the first place

I am HUGE on entrepreneurship, I think it is one of the most liberating things a person can do. I also am honest about two things. First that it just isn’t right for everyone and second entrepreneurship is an extremely diverse topic with no one size fits all solution.
